Frequently Asked Questions
Got a question? I’m here to answer it. If you don’t find the answer to your question here, feel free to get in touch
How much do you charge?
Each one hour session costs £45 payable by bank transfer or card. I will send you the details when we book our first session.
How do I make an appointment?
If you are new to MK Counselling Services, you are likely to have some questions so the easiest way is to use the contact button below and we can speak on the phone to organise an appointment. I am not always able to pick up straight away so please leave a voicemail and I will call you back.
When my waiting list is clear you can also book directly using the link below.
Where are you located?
I am based in Eastham, Wirral. Since 2020 I have moved my counselling practice into my home office. Despite working from home, my room is set up so our conversations remain confidential.
How does therapy work online?
Most of my work is now on Microsoft Teams. Before each session, I will send you a meeting link. There are a few differences between counselling online rather than face to face.
Joining the meeting is simple. All you need is a phone, tablet or computer connected to the internet. If you need some guidance on how to join the meeting, please let me know when we speak and I can send a guide to you.
You will need to provide your own glass of water/cup of tea and it’s a good idea to have a pen and paper nearby.
It is important that you have space where you can’t be overheard. If there are others in your house, I would recommend speaking to them so you are able to attend our meeting without distractions or being overheard. It may help if you have a headset or headphones to avoid audio difficulties and to maintain confidentiality.
We will discuss how we will deal with IT issues when we speak before our first session.
Is counselling confidential?
What you say in counselling is confidential and what we discuss will stay between us however, there are a few exceptions to this and we will discuss these in our first meeting.
Do you work in the evenings?
Sessions are available on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
How many sessions will I need?
Counselling will remain on offer for as long as it is useful to you.
You are in control of how many sessions you feel you need. I would usually recommend an initial six sessions and we review regularly from there.
Managing endings in counselling is important. It is rare in our lives that we have a satisfactory ending so if you are thinking of ending your sessions, I have found it to be beneficial to speak about it the week before we end. In the majority of cases, we will come to a mutual agreement ahead of our last session.
Do you offer concessions?
Currently I do not offer concessions. If this changes, I will post it onto social media.
What age groups do you work with?
I have experience working with people aged 13 and upwards. The majority of my work has been with adults.
Do you work with couples?
I do. In my experience, a lot of couples leave it until they are at crisis point before they seek counselling. If you feel like there are elements of your relationship that are not making you happy then please get in touch
Will you send me anything in the post?
No. I will keep contact to email and text where possible
Will you record our sessions?
Not at all. I am required by my insurance company to make some anonymised notes which are held securely. This will be common practice for all counsellors.
